Nothing But A Mansion

She buys the New York Post each and every Thursday. As soon as she can sit somewhere, she goes to the Home Section. Her favorite part of the Home Section is: When Nothing but a Mansion Will Do. It’s not that she wouldn’t take a regular home—an apt. with a kitchen, a bathroom and that most precious of all things, a shower—it’s just that she wants to allow herself to dream and dream Big. What would I do if I had a place with high ceilings in the Village? She asks? When I have a home, I want a great big kitchen, like that one on Cornelia Street. And, if I have that kind of money, I might as well get something with a wraparound terrace, like this mansion in Park Slope. I would love to sit there in the summertime and drink mate or tea. She shakes her head. No, it’s all a dream and I have to go back to life—Real life. I have no home of my own.
