The Steps

The Steps

It is dark on Park Avenue. The old church has steps going all the way up to the main doors. These are concrete steps, a man walking by tells his friend. And concrete steps are hard to sit on even in the summer months. There is someone with her back against one of the wooden doors. Other people walk by. She watches them taking pictures of the church and of her and her animal in the cage. “Is it ok?” A tourist asks smiling and waving his hand. “Sure. Why not?, ” the woman answers. “My cat is photogenic.”
