He wore a brown trench coat with no belt. The left hand reached into the green garbage container; his other held held on to the umbrella. “There is nothing here. No food,” the man said looking up. When he smiled, the woman saw that his front teeth were gone. “I used to know him. He was such a riot. He was a sweet, nice man.” The man looked at her.” It’s February. Your birthday is in February. Really!” The woman nodded, turning her face away from him. It didn’t matter. Her birthday was in April, but how could he remember that now?
